Pooh had made up a little hum that morning, as he was doing his Stoutness Exercises in front of the glass: TRA-LA-LA, TRA-LA-LA, as he stretched up as high as he could go, and then TRA-LA-LA, TRA-LA – OH HELP! – LA, as he tried to reach his toes. ~A.A.Milne #MondayMotivation

9 Spinal Stretches to Ease Back Pain—twists can be heaven for a bad back, if you don’t push too hard. http://ow.ly/juYV30f8EvD

“Lower back pain is like death and taxes; everybody gets it at some point,” says out Sean Mackey, MD, PhD, chief of the division of pain medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. About 9 in 10 of those patients recover fairly quickly, he says, but for the remainder, the pain becomes chronic and life-altering. (Try this 60-second fix for back pain.) “The severity of the original injury and how prone you are to anxiety plays a role in whether your pain will persist,” he says. Physical therapy focused on core strengthening is one of the most effective treatments.

Engage your abdominal muscles with these yoga poses that build a strong & stable center!
Contributor: Certified yoga instructor Patti Kopasakis, PT, DPT, SCS, RYT-200
Your abdominal muscles are just one component of your core. The gluteal muscles, diaphragm, hip flexors, and hip adductor muscles also comprise your core. These large muscle groups help control the movements you make throughout the day. Strengthening these muscles helps to absorb forces from daily activities and decrease the forces that move through joints.
Here is a group yoga poses that can help to improve your core muscles. Try holding them for two to three breaths at first, then increase the number of breaths to challenge yourself. On the one-sided poses, be sure to repeat on the other side!
Note: Poses should be entered into and moved out of slowly to protect muscles and joints. If you are having specific pain that has been ongoing for longer than two weeks or you have a specific injury, it is always best consult a qualified health care provider, such as a physical therapist, who can develop a plan specific to your needs.

“If we dig deeper, we find that yoga philosophy offers profound insights for how business could be built better, for a world in which the goal of profit maximization looks very small against the challenges of climate change, inequality, and loss of trust.”
The worlds of yoga and work ought to be—perhaps urgently, desperately need to be—in touch with one another.
